Owl Song- Ruth 2:15-18

This post might come off as a little strange to some of you, but it’s the one God laid on my heart.

God has supplied my every need. Every one of them. But there has also been moments when He gave me a little extra. It’s not always about “things.” Sometimes, especially during times of grief, God sends little nudges to let us know He cares about our broken hearts. Little hugs from God.

One night, right after my husband’s passing, I received one of those unexpected nudges in the form of a serenade from a parliament of great horned owls. Yes, a group of owls is called a parliament. I looked it up.

I’ve lived here for 30 years, and I’ve never seen an owl and it’s rare to hear one. So what I’m about to tell you seems fantastical, but it really happened. Because it was so fantastical, that’s how I know it was orchestrated by God.

Something woke me in the middle of the night. I’m lying in bed trying to figure out what the noise was that pulled me from sleep. Then I realize owls are calling outside my window. Some were really close and some were at a distance but all of them were at the back of my house where my bedroom is.

I swear, there had to be between 15-20 owls judging by where each hoot came from. I laid there softly crying in wonder, experiencing the very presence of God. I’d never heard of anything like that before. I listened for several nights after that, and they didn’t return. In fact, I haven’t heard a great horned owl since then.

God showered His love on Ruth and Naomi in ways that went above and beyond their needs. I believe it’s something all Christians experience at some point in their walk with God. Isn’t that awesome? Have you ever experienced anything like this?
