A woman I didn’t know once told me, “Your husband is beautiful.” It made me proud.
Tommy and I had taken the convertible to a carwash to get it ready for a car show. It was one of the old-fashion, do-it-yourself type. I ended up doing most of the work because Tommy wasn’t in the best of health, but I didn’t mind.
After washing it, I pulled up to the vacuum. He was on one side, and I was on the other. The plan was for me to go as far as I could reach, then hand the hose over to him. I did my part and when I tried to hand the hose over to Tommy, he was nowhere in sight.
I paniced a little, looking all around and I could’t find him. Meanwhile, the vacuum runs out of minutes and cuts itself off. That’s when I hear his voice and that of a woman’s. I look up the hill to the highway and there he is. The lady’s car had run out of gas right next to us.
They made their way down the hill to me and Tommy asked if it was okay if he used my car to take her to the gas station. Of course I said yes, so the two of them drove of and I stood there next to the vacuum waiting. Knowing my husband, I knew he would make that strangers ride in that classic convertible as enjoyable as possible. He was like that, always making strangers feel like they were the best of friends.
I can imagine the dread that lady felt when her car ran out of gas. She didn’t know God had landed her in just the right spot. She didn’t know that He would have someone like Tommy to not only help her out, but I’m betting he made her day too.
Boaz had a reputation too- one of going above and beyond to help those in need. Ruth’s reputation was one of a gentle, hard-working woman. We can all learn from their examples.
I wrote a study guide on the book of Ruth. You can find the link here-https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FN6B7YP1 This blog series will follow along with each section of the book. I plan to post every Monday. If you’d like a reminder, please sign up to receive notification.
