My Books

Non-Christian Characters

I definitely write Christian novels but not all of my characters start out as Christians. Some are Christians, but they don’t act like it at the beginning of the book. But you never have to worry with one of my stories. The main characters will always reach redemption by the end. The side characters… well, that’s a different matter.
In Restoring Dermot, Adrika is in a bad situation where she is forced into marriage with someone who happens to be a believer. She’s been taught to obey the men in her life, never giving in to her own thoughts. So her road to redemption is a long one, but it is powerful.
Believe it or not, Izzy Tanner from Love’s Redemption was saved as a child. Tragedy hit and she dove so deep into sin, you may wonder if she’ll ever make her way back out again. But of course she does. Once you become a child of God, He never leaves you alone. In Izzy’s case, He sent Sheba Burris, among others.
In What Matters Most, you can’t help but feel like Jo Spencer should’ve known better. She’d gone to church all her life. She’d been raised by a godly mother. How could someone like that not already be saved? But it happens. In Jo’s case, it took tragedy to wake her up.
So why do I write these types of characters into existence? You may have guessed it. Because though they are created from nothing more than my imagination, my characters reflect real life.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the subject. Do you love a good redemption story as much as I do? Or maybe you prefer Christian characters that have hit a bump in the road but you can tell from the beginning that they’ll make it through? (I’ve written some of those also!) No wrong answers here.
