Unusual Request from God

Has God ever asked you to do something that just didn’t make sense? Maybe it’s a request that just doesn’t seem like something God would concern Himself with, or maybe it goes against your way of thinking, or even against your beliefs. Whatever the case, it has you questioning whether it’s really from God but the urge is unmistakable. Do you do it?

This morning He asked me to go shopping. And not just anywhere, but He wanted me to go into a specific store. I’m a homebody and my plans for the day did not include getting dressed and leaving the house. I’m not much of a shopper either, and I’m not exactly swimming in money. And I don’t need anything, especially not from there.

All of these thoughts came up in my discussion with God this morning but He was persistent. So I got dressed and I went. Not only that, but I went with an opened heart and mind, ready to find out what He had in store. Maybe there was a life changing purchase in my future, specially marked just for me.

Just last night, I’d asked Him to give me the desire for exercise. Even typing that just now made me laugh, but hey, it was worth a shot. So as I walked the perimeter of the store on the lookout for that big life-changing sale item, I wondered if this was His purpose.

I made it to the register with a $2.50 item in my buggy. I can tell you, it will NOT change my life in any way since I already had some of the same at home. Then I ran into an old acquaintance. It wasn’t someone I see very often but she still wore that cloak of bitterness she’s been sporting for years now. I recognized it because I used to wear one just like it.

We spoke briefly, and I went on to my car, still wondering why I was there. Then plain as anything God said pray for her. I did, humbled and ashamed that I’d never thought to pray for her before. I mean, I’d noticed the bitterness before but didn’t feel like I was close enough to her to address it. Because that’s what I tend to do, try to fix people with my words. Sometimes the only one we need to speak to is God. I mean, who can do a better job of fixing things than Him?

Before today, that person had not been on my radar, so to speak. But God hadn’t forgotten about them. He hasn’t forgotten about you either. I’m spreading a net of prayer over all who read this, but if you have a request, hit me up. Or better yet, take it to the Lord yourself. He’s always available and desires conversation with His children!
